Leadership FACS

Attendees at this years Leadership FACS retreat.

More than 24 student leaders and a dozen faculty and staff attended this year’s Leadership FACS retreat in Madison County. The retreat provides an opportunity for FACS Ambassadors, Legislative Aides and the presidents and vice presidents of student clubs to learn more about the college as well as a variety of leadership skills.

Several Foods and Nutrition graduate students won awards at the Georgia Nutritional Council’s statewide meeting in February. Irene Hatsu (MS, ’07, Foods and Nutrition) was awarded the Holly Alley Scholarship and placed second in the graduate research oral presentation category; Sara Hendrix (MS ’07, Foods and Nutrition) won the Rita Waters Scholarship; Sara Fitzpatrick (BSFCS ’04, Nutrition Science; MS ’07, Foods and Nutrition) won first place in the graduate research oral presentation category, and Elizabeth Speer (MS ’07, Foods and Nutrition) won first place in the graduate research poster presentation.

Tiffany M. Cummings-Aholou (PhD Student, Human Development and Family Science) received the UGA- NAACP “Outstanding Social Justice Research Award,” which is given to a student involved in research that advances the ideals of social justice, racial diversity or equity with the potential to impact public policy, this fall. Cummings-Aholou and Jerry Gale (Professor, Human Development and Family Science) are conducting research on premarital counseling in African-American churches and HIV-AIDS.

Katy Gregg (PhD Student, Institute on Human Development and Disabilities and Human Development and Family Science) has been accepted for the UGA Graduate School Future Leaders Program.
