Research: My research focuses on the predictors and consequences of various parenting behaviors. Specifically, I am interested in the ways in which parenting is associated with adolescent delinquency, risky sexual behavior, and dating violence.

Teaching: Each fall and spring I teach a large section of CHFD 2100: Intro to Family Development. In the fall I teach CHFD 6640: Family Issues, a graduate seminar.

Interests: parenting styles, intergenerational transmission of violence and other problem behaviors, contextual factors that mediate/moderate the relationship between parenting and developmental outcomes for adolescents/young adults.

Research: Dr. Souto-Manning’s research examines the process of culturally and linguistically diverse children’s changing participation in sociocultural activities within homes, schools and communities.

Outreach: Dr. Souto-Manning is the Research Coordinator of the Child Development Lab and Co-Director of the Birth through Five Program.
