Welcome!
Welcome
to the College of Family and Consumer Sciences where “Knowledge
for Real Life” is both our motto and our pledge.
FACS faculty are providing cutting edge research in the fields of child and family development, foods and nutrition, housing and consumer economics, and textiles, merchandising and interiors. Many have been recognized both nationally and internationally for their accomplishments.
Despite our successful research program, FACS is known throughout the University of Georgia as one of the most student-centered colleges on campus. Both students who major in FACS fields and those who take our courses as electives are quick to praise our faculty and staff for the attention we provide students. Our alumni are frequently in touch with favorite instructors and offer high praise for the rigor of the classes and the excellence of the instruction.
FACS offers more than $100,000 annually in scholarships to both our undergraduate and graduate students. These scholarships range from support for study abroad opportunities to research support and rewards for academic excellence. We also provide undergraduates the opportunity to participate in the Undergraduate Research Program, which provides funding for projects.
Our students have multiple opportunities to join student clubs and organizations, such as the Student Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, the College Ambassadors program, and clubs in each of the departmental areas. Students also can take advantage of a variety of study programs, including study abroad programs in Mexico, Ghana and London, as well as programs in New York City and Washington, D.C.
If you’re visiting our website to learn more about FACS, we hope you’ll also consider visiting us in Dawson Hall. Our Office of Student Services is the best place to gain the information you’ll need before deciding if FACS should be your college home.
Best wishes,
Laura Jolly
Dean
