Position:
Lecturer In Furnishings And Interiors: a nine-month non-tenure track position to meet the growing needs of the Furnishings and Interiors program.
Responsibilities:
Teach undergraduate courses; advise students; demonstrate potential for outstanding achievement in the professional discipline; recruit undergraduate students; provide service to professional organizations, department, college and the university. Potential opportunities exist to foster relationships with organizations at UGA such as the Academy of the Environment, The Henry Green Center for Decorative Arts and the Institute of Gerontology.
Qualifications:
M.S., M.A. or M.F.A. in interior design or related field. AutoCAD proficiency required. University level teaching experience, NKBA certification, NCIDQ certification, and experience in residential interior design or architecture preferred. Candidates must demonstrate potential to teach courses in at least three of the following areas: design fundamentals, rendering and presentation methods, kitchen and bath design, residential building systems and lighting design, professional practices, and upper division studios focusing on residential environments and building design (single-family housing, housing for special populations, and/or universal design).
The Department:
The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors (TMI) offers undergraduate majors in Furnishings and Interiors and Fashion Merchandising. The FI program is endorsed by the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA). The FI Program provides undergraduates a residential building design and interiors program of study. TMI offers four M.S. programs of study. The FI graduate program of study offers an emphasis in historic interiors and house museums. The department also offers a Ph.D. program in Textile Sciences. The department has over 420 undergraduate students (approximately 100 of whom are Furnishings and Interiors majors) and 20 graduate students. There are 13 faculty members in the department engaged in teaching and research. In January 2008 the program will move into a newly renovated 12,000 sq. ft. facility that will house multiple studios, computer labs, classroom, resource room and library, faculty offices, and gallery.
The College:
TMI is one of four departments in the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Other departments are Child and Family Development, Foods and Nutrition, and Housing and Consumer Economics. The college has excellent computer laboratories and computer support staff for teaching and research.
