These instructions will explain how to setup your bookmarks.html file in iFolder so that you can synchronize it between your various iFolder client machines. Note: This will only work with Firefox 1.x, 2.x. Firefox 3 uses a different

bookmark saving protocol.

*** Very Important ***

You must export your current bookmarks.html file (Bookmarks --> Manage Bookmarks --> Tools --> Export) before attempting the following. Otherwise, Netscape/Mozilla will create an empty bookmarks file in the iFolder location.

Note: this is a good thing to do on a regular bases even with iFolder -- export your bookmarks.html file and put it on a floppy, zip, etc. and label it something like 'Bookmarks 05-27-2005'

  • Type about:config in your URL address box

  • If you don't already see browser.bookmarks.file in your Preferences, Right Click somewhere amongst the Preferences, Select New and String.

  • For the string name, type browser.bookmarks.file

    (mozilla-ifolder2B.gif)

  • For the String Value type the path to your PCs iFolder (in my case it is D:My DocumentsiFolder and I've created a Bookmarks folder there, so the entire string for my Preferences is D:My DocumentsiFolderBookmarksookmarks.html

  • Close your browser, and copy the bookmarks.html file you exported earlier to the iFolder folder so it will be synchronized to your other iFolder clients.
  • From now on, when you save a bookmark it will be available to you on any PC on which you have iFolder installed!
