How do I use FileZilla to transfer my files to Spock?

If you don't already have it installed on your PC, download FileZilla and and run the Installer.

You'll probably want the latest build, ending in ...setup.exe (32-bit Windows)

Step 1 -- Install:

Select your Language

  • Accept the license agreement

  • Accept the default components

  • Accept the default Install area

  • Accept the Start Menu Folder

  • Unless you are the only person using the PC You probably want to change these defaults to Use secure mode and use registry Click Install and after installation, click Finish

Step 1 -- Setup:

  • The first time you run FileZilla you may want to maximize your Window to give you a better look at all the frames within FileZilla

    Click on the Site Manager icon on the upper left of the toolbar.

  • Click on the New Site button in the lower left of your Site Manager

  • Name your New Site spock and in the right-hand Site text box, type 'spock.fcs.uga.edu', and for the Server Type select SFTP using SSH2. Change the Logontype from Anonymous to Normal, put your username in the User box, and check the Don't save password box. You can optionally click on the Default Site radio button.

  • Click on the Site Manager arrow icon in the upper left toolbar, and select spock. You will be prompted for your Spock password.
    Enter your password, and the top status frame will show you the connectivity status, and the right frame should show you your Home Directory Files

  • The left frame set is your Local Site or local PC Drives and Folders. The right frame is your Remote Site -- in this case your Home Directory on Spock

    To transfer files, simply drag them from one frame to the other, and you can see the file transfer status in the bottom-most frame of FileZilla
