Walk-A-Weigh
Updated in 2007, this weight control program provides lesson plans, Power points, handouts, pre-made menus, recipes and a walking program that can help those dealing with diabetes, overweight, obesity and other chronic diseases to lose weight and become more physically fit.Objectives
Participants will be able to- determine an appropriate calorie level to promote healthy weight control.
- follow a set of pre-made menus at that calorie level.
- make permanent changes in food selection to reduce fat, sodium and calories.
- increase physical activity.
- reduce risk for cardiovascular disease, cancer, osteoporosis and diabetes.
Description
1. This curriculum includes 25 different lesson plans on a CD. While this curriculum is designed for the general adult population, it is appropriate for those who have diabetes.2. Each lesson plan includes a script, handouts, a recipe and Power Point slides.
3. During each lesson, participants hear a 15 minute lecture, walk for 45 minutes and taste a reduced calorie recipe.
4. Walk-a-Weigh received the Second Place National Award for Educational Curriculum Packages from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences in the year 2000.
