Planning for Family Involvement in Early Childhood Settings

The Planning for Family Involvement in Early Childhood Based on feedback from center directors, we have identified family involvement as an issue on which many early childhood teachers need more information. The Planning for Family Involvement in Early Childhood Settings manual provides background on why family involvement is important, tips for reaching different types of families, ways to make family involvement successful in the early childhood classroom, and a wide variety of sample family involvement activities related to young children's health and safety. This manual has been introduced to early childhood teachers in training workshops in Spring 2006. Additional training, including training for trainers, will be scheduled when funding is availabe.

Upcoming Training

Teaching Basic Health and Safety in the Early Childhood Classroom training sessions are complete for 2006. To find a trainer in your area, contact your County Extension Agent or your local child care resource and referral agency. The Eat Healthy, Be Active curriculum unit has been adopted as part of Georgia's Healthy Eating for Life project. Train-the-trainer sessions that include this unit will take place in spring and fall 2007. The Healthy Eating for Life web site includes a listing of training opportunities, as well as other resources on healthy eating and physical activity.
