Based on the Help Yourself to a Healthy Home booklet, this program is designed to educate the Georgia public on ways to protect children's health in the home environment. The program focuses on health issues (with an emphasis on children) commonly found in homes, ways to determine the problems and how to repair and prevent them in the future. The educational material is broken down into five main subjects:
- Indoor Air Quality, with subcategories relating to formaldehyde, combustion pollutants, moisture control, hazardous household products, dust control, radon and proper ventilation.
- Lead, with explanations as to where lead is found, how it can get into a child's system, health effects and how to have children tested for lead.
- Drinking Water, focusing on bacteria and viruses, nitrate, lead and copper, and other harmful chemicals that can contaminate water both in public water supplies and through private wells.
- Hazardous Household Products, such as cleaners, fuels, paints and other poisonous products, how to store them safely and ways to cut down on the number of hazardous products in the home
- Pesticides, focusing on methods of reducing pests through prevention rather than chemicals, why children are at such high risk, how to store and dispose of pesticides.
