Safety Begins at Home
Falls are the leading cause of unintentional death in the home, followed by poisoning, choking, drowning and fire. The Centers for Disease Control estimate the costs associated with falls for people age 65 and over are more than $27 billion a year. Improving the safety of your home is important not only for older adults, but also for the entire family.
The fact sheets listed below will help you identify and correct problem areas in your home. Start with the Home Safety Checklist to see which areas of your home can be made safer.
Remember the three key ways to a safer home are:
- Light your Way
- De-clutter your Life
- Grab onto Safety
