Spray the stain with a combination solvent such as Magic, Shout, or Spray 'n Wash. Allow to remain for 1-2 minutes, then blot. Work undiluted liquid dishwashing detergent in the stain, using fingers to agitate. Sponge thoroughly with clear water to remove all detergent residue. Blot thoroughly to remove excess moisture. Run hand across carpet (against nap) to set the pile of the carpet. Allow to dry.
If stain persists, apply amyl acetate to the stain and cover with an absorhent pad dampened with amyl acetate. Keep moist for 15 minutes, blotting occasionally with a clean, absorbent pad. Set pile as described in Method #1.
Amyl acetate is poisonous and flammable. Avoid contact with skin and inhaling the vapors.
Always pretest each cleaning agent on an inconspicuous area first to determine colorfastness.
