Being
active is usually quite safe. But in rare cases, problems can arise. Be
aware of some of the signs and symptoms of when to stop exercising.
Symptoms
of Heart Disease - For Men
- Chest
pain or discomfort.
- What: Uncomfortable
feeling of pressure, pain, squeezing, or heaviness.
- Where: Possibly
in the center of the chest,
- Spread throughout
the front of the chest, or
- Radiating to the
shoulder(s), arm(s), neck, and back.

What
to do: Stop and sit or lie down.

If
it does not go away after 2-4 minutes, to to an emergency room.

If
it does go away, but returns each time you exercise, see your doctor.
Symptoms
of Heart Disease For Women
Warning signs for women are different than they are for men
and can be far more subtle. If you or any female you know shows these
signs, get help right away.
- Feeling breathless,
often without chest pain of any kind
- Flu like symptoms
- specifically nausea, clamminess or cold sweats
- Unexplained fatigue,
weakness or dizziness
- Pain in upper back,
shoulders, neck, or jaw
- Feelings of anxiety
If you
even suspect these symptoms, call your doctor. If urgent, call
911 or go to a local hospital's emergency room. If you have any doubts,

Severe
nausea, shortness of breath, sweating, or feeling lightheaded
- What to do:
Call your doctor.
These
may or may not be signs of something serious like a heart problem.
