Simple Tips for Dining Out
  • Ask for foods to be prepared the healthy way. Look for key words such as "steamed", "in it's own juice", "broiled", "dry broiled", "roasted" or "poached"

  • Limit foods with the following high fat key words: "buttery", "fried", "crispy", "creamed", "au gratin", or in "cheese sauce"

  • Portion sizes in restaurants are often too large. Ask for a doggie bag or share an entree with a friend

Try these healthy food choices when dining out:

Appetizers: Crab meat with lemon, shrimp cocktail or broth based soup

Salads: Use a low fat salad dressing or ask for the dressing on the side

Vegetables: All vegetables prepared without butter, oil, or cream sauce

Bread/Starch: Use plain bread, rolls or toast. Ask for steamed rice and pasta with marinara sauce. Try a baked potato with salsa or ketchup

Dessert: Fresh fruit, gelatin, frozen yogurt, or sorbet
