ˇSalud! Addressing
Latino Health Challenges
Conference
Dates: July 29-31, 2002
Call
for Program Proposals
The Department of
Foods and Nutrition, College of Family and Consumer Sciences, University
of Georgia is now accepting solicited abstracts and session outlines for
the ˇSalud! Addressing Latino Health Challenges Conference, Athens,
GA (July 29-31, 2002). The theme of the meeting is: Health Solutions
for the Latino Point of View.
General
Submissions must
be received by Thursday, February 28, 2002 for consideration by
the Program Committee. Abstracts and session outlines not meeting the
Conditions for Submission will be rejected.
The proposal committee
will acknowledge receipt of all submissions. Notification of acceptance
or rejection of submission will be mailed or emailed to the designated
program proposal contact person on or about April 1, 2002.
Conditions for
Submission
- All submissions
should be in Microsoft Word 97 format (doc).
- Use Times New
Roman font in 12 point.
- Send all submissions
to the attention of Leslie Rodriguez, Project Director via either:

- Authors should
indicate if they prefer:
- an oral presentation
- a poster presentation
- either oral
or poster presentation
- Only submissions
for persons who register for the conference will be considered for oral
or poster presentations
Format of Paper
Submissions
- Abstracts must
be limited to 250 words or fewer.
- Select the subject
listed below that your abstract most closely addresses:
- Latino home cures,
popular beliefs, and/or food preferences
- Latino family
values
- Communicating
with low-literate Latinos (immigrants)
- Uses of the Spanish
media
- Health promotion
and prevention programs in the Latino community
- Latino health
challenges and/or barriers to healthcare and solutions
- Latino workforce
health challenges and solutions
- Research with
Latinos

- Briefly describe
the problem and solution(s) to be presented (limit: 100 words)
- State the learning
objectives.
Write the learning
objectives that relate to these outcomes and that reflect the content
of the session. Objectives describe the behavior of the learner and:
- are stated
clearly
- define or
describe an action
- are measurable,
in terms of time, space, amount, and/or frequency.
- Summary (limit:
100 words): All summaries will be translated into an international version
of Spanish. Author-supplied translations help in the formulation of
the international version.
- Designate the
program proposal contact person: name, address, phone, fax, email address,
title, and organization.
- Include a Author
Bio Sketch: Include name, address, phone, fax, email address, certification/credentials,
title, organization, brief educational background, and brief work history.
Describe your research, field work, current position, or how you are
involved with the Latino population.
Poster Presentations
Poster papers will
be a maximum of 4X8 ft. Presenter must remain at the poster throughout
the session.

for poster boards is:

Oral Presentations
- The accepted
oral papers will be for 15-minute presentations with 5 minutes of questions
to follow (strict time limitation).
