Workforce Issues and Injury Prevention"
Speaker: Marilyn
Velez - Compliance Assistance Specialist
Employees are issued citations ranging from $7,000 - 70,000. The cases
can result in clinical charges. Many workers are told to go to Emergency
Room but report injury as home accident not work accident because employee
does not have workers compensation. This is common for day workers. OSHA
supports day workers centers because of the safety and contact information
kept about the employers.
Many workers are so loyal that they will not report the employers to OSHA.
Most workers blame their native government for leaving their county so
they do not trust the U.S. government.
Language is common but cultures are so different, which limit Spanish
speaking Latino staff.
