Bakery objectives

  1. Identify what constitutes a serving of bread

  2. Identify an appropriate number of servings they should consume from this food group

  3. Describe the importance of, identify, and select whole-grain foods

  4. Select foods that are made with little fat or sugar

  5. Identify high-fiber grain products

  6. Describe difference between bakery bread and national brand bread

Objective 1: Identify what constitutes a serving of bread

•Remind participants that there is serving size information on (“What Counts as 1 Serving?”) and (“Sizing Up Portions”)

 •Explain that one slice of bread is a serving of bread

 •Explain that depending on the size of a bagel, it can be 2-4 bread servings (one serving would be the size of a hockey puck)

Objective 2: Identify an appropriate number of servings they should consume from this food group

•Explain that the average person should eat between 6-11 servings from this food group, but it should be a combination of bread, rice, pasta, and cereal.

•Remind participants that this information is summarized on the  (“How Many Servings for You?”)
