I was born in McRae, Ga., and raised in the small community of Milan. I have been married to Stanley for 26 years. Stanley is a line foreman for Ocmulgee EMC in Eastman and we have been blessed with two wonderful children, Taylor and Ellie. Taylor is currently employed with Southeast Ag as a Service Technician after earning his Diesel Mechanic Certification from Oconee Fall Line Technical College last May. Ellie is a freshman in high school and enjoys showing livestock and participating in FFA and 4-H. My husband and children make me proud everyday – I am blessed!
How long have you been working with Extension?
I have been with Extension for eight years.
What originally attracted you to Extension work and what would you say is the best part of the job?
Always one to be involved in bettering the community, I saw Extension as a way to do that. I love the fact that as a FACS Extension Agent, I can make a difference in the lives of families within my community in a variety of ways.
Can you tell us about any role models or inspirations you might have?
I would have to credit my parents and two very special aunts for always being my biggest cheerleaders. Though all but one has gone on to a better place, I still carry their love for me in my heart and try each day to live up to the examples they set for me. My husband and children also provide a tremendous amount of love and support daily.
Any favorite books or movies?
I am a fan of anything written James Patterson. My favorite movie is Fried Green Tomatoes
What has been your proudest moment as an Extension agent?
One of the proudest moments of my career came just a few weeks ago, when I heard from a participant in one of my car seat classes. She shared with me that because she and her husband lived on a dirt road just down the road from her mother’s home, they would sometimes let their 2-year-old daughter ride without being buckled into her seat. After attending a session on car seat safety, she said she decided that would no longer be the case and the very next week they were almost T-boned on the dirt road with their daughter safely buckled in the backseat! I still get chills thinking that I made such a difference in that family’s life! It always makes me proud to hear from class participants that they learned something beneficial in one of my programs.
What are some of your hobbies or favorite activities outside of work?
I have a love of all things crafty! I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading and getting sand between my toes.
If you weren’t an Extension agent, what other line of work do you think you would have pursued?
