This program is designed to support the academic and career goals of undergraduate students, recent graduates, and graduate students of the Housing Management and Policy program to assist them in a successful transition from academic to professional life.

Why should I take part in the mentoring program?

  • It will help you create a focused plan with an experienced professional in the field

  • You learn how to identify careers goals and chart  your progress

  • It is an opportunity to learn more about a career area and the specific jobs and pathways within this area.

  • You will receive guidance and constructive feedback on career goals, business skills and etiquette.

Program details:

The mentoring program is a six-month program, from October-March of each academic year.  Students and mentors will commit to connecting (in-person, by phone, or via Skype/FaceTime) monthly during the program.

  • Each pair will determine what topics they will cover, or what areas of professional development they’ll work on together based on the interests and goals of each participant. Typical topics include: Resume and cover letter development, interviewing practice, communication skills, job/internship search strategies, on-campus involvement, and networking.

  • The program will include two events for mentors and students, a Fall Kick-Off in October and the Spring Celebration in February.

Eligibility:

The program will be open to all current Housing Management and Policy majors and graduates of the program.

Student application process:

Applications will be accepted through September 22nd, 2017.  Students will be notified of their mentor match in early October.
