Dr. Sweaney's research interests include the effect of public policy on housing for families and consumers, housing needs of older adults, and the role of technology in adapting housing for the life span. Common themes of her teaching methods are diversity, creativity, and state-of-the-art technology. Dr. Sweaney incorporates computer applications into every course she teaches. She has received the national award for Excellence in College and University Teaching from the United States Department of Agriculture and has won numerous teaching and advising awards at the College and University levels. She served as the coordinator of the Legislative Aide Program for the College of Family and Consumer Sciences for 10 years. She developed the first College Study Abroad Program to London, England. She was a Josiah Meigs Award recipient in 1999. She serves on the Board of the Manufactured Housing Research Alliance.
