Students interested in pursuing graduate studies in financial planning can pursue a master’s or doctorate degree in Housing and Consumer Economics with an emphasis in Family Financial Planning. A non-thesis program of study is available for students pursing a master’s degree in Housing and Consumer Economics with an emphasis in Family Financial Planning. The M.S. with an emphasis in Family Financial Planning program is registered with CFP Board of Standards. Students who complete the program will have satisfied CFP Board’s education requirements.
The department also offers a traditional research oriented master’s degree. The traditional thesis based program is not registered with CFP Board of Standards, however, students could take courses that would prepare them for the CFP® Examination and may also meet the education requirement based on a transcript review by CFP Board of Standards.
University of Georgia does not certify individuals to use the CFP®, Certified Financial Planner™ and marks. CFP® certification is granted solely by Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards Inc. to individuals who, in addition to completing an educational requirement such as this CFP Board-Registered Program, have met ethics, experience and examination requirements.
