I have been working with people who have developmental disabilities for over 20 years. I started in a group home in New Hampshire when deinstitutionalization first began. Although I was initially timid about the work, it took no time at all to blast into a passion that has been my life. I have worked for organizations and have had my own business.
I am very familiar with the various Medicaid waiver programs, and stay abreast to the many changes that occur. When
I learned about the “community guide” training, I thought it was a wonderful opportunity to help people get through the overwhelming information and procedures of participant directed services and teach them what they need to know to get the most out of their funds, without “getting into trouble”. I believe Participant directed services are of great benefit to everyone who choose to use them.
As a Community Guide I hope to make the successes and benefits of utilizing the participant directed waiver outweigh the challenges.
