The Early Childhood Education: Pre-K Through Grade 2 program was established through the collaboration of the Departments of Child and Family Development and Early Childhood Education. The aim of the Pre-kindergarten- Second Grade major is to develop exemplary teachers of young children for public or private settings. Upon completion of this program, students will receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Family and Consumer Sciences with a special emphasis in Pre-Kindergarten to Second Grade. This program allows graduates to seek Pre-K to Fifth Grade teaching certification from the State of Georgia.
Students admitted into this program will follow a sequence of courses throughout four semesters. During this time students will also gain field experience through various settings such as schools, community agencies and social service agencies.
Enrollment for the Pre-kindergarten – Second Grade Major begins every three semesters. We expect groups to begin Fall 2004, Spring 2006, Fall 2007 and so on. Students interested in applying to enter the CFD- Early Childhood Education: Pre-K through Grade 2 Emphasis major should contact Dr. Julia Atiles and complete an application form no later than two semesters prior to the semester in which he/she desires to begin the program. Additional information about the program and courses offered in this major can be found in the Undergraduate Bulletin
and in the Undergraduate Handbook posted online.
