Students in the Department of Child and Family Development should read and be familiar with the Undergraduate Handbook. This Handbook will serve as a useful tool and guide during your studies in this department. The Undergraduate Child Life Handbook has also been provided for students enrolled or interested in this program. These Handbooks have been provided in PDF format and may be printed for easier use by students.
Directed studies are available to undergraduate students wishing to work more closely with faculty members in the Department of Child and Family Development. Students may engage in various tasks including assisting with research, working on special projects, and conducting independent research. Students taking a Directed Study course, CHFD 3010, must first receive permission of the department and a faculty member to sign up for this option. Students studying Child and Family Development at the University of Georgia will receive a broad background in knowledge and issues concerning children and families. This expansive curriculum provides students with knowledge that prepares them to work in many areas of the field of child and family services. This degree is beneficial to students pursuing careers in social services, child care settings, early childhood education or those students wishing to obtain future education in the area of marriage and family therapy and other more specialized work. Graduates from the University of Georgia Child and Family Development program have been employed in schools, camps, hospitals, educational programs and non-profit organizations.
