Overview

The Nutrition Intervention Laboratory is led by Dr. Rebecca Mullis as Principal Investigator for all research projects. Her work encompasses local, national and international projects. She is assisted by a research team which includes an evaluation specialist, project director, research administrator, graphic designer, statistician and several research coordinators (interviewers/data collectors) with expertise as registered dietitians and certified health educators, and Ph.D. and masters level graduate students (graduate assistants). In this laboratory, research coordinators have specialized training, which includes data collection using computerized dietary assessment, administering food frequency questionnaires, and 24-hour dietary recalls for individual and population based research projects. For 24-hour dietary recalls, research coordinators are trained on the state of the art Nutrition Data System software system (NDS-R), for which the lab holds licenses.

All research coordinators are highly proficient in the development and implementation of community based intervention programs, and dietary assessment procedures necessary to help implement dietary interventions and assessment activities, such as validity and reliability testing of dietary instruments. Additionally, the research coordinators are a multi-ethnic staff with bilingual expertise in African and Latino cultures.
