The Georgia Initiative for Community Housing, launched in November 2004, offers communities a three-year program of collaboration and technical assistance. The objective of the Initiative is to help communities create and launch a locally based plan to meet their housing and neighborhood revitalization needs. The Initiative grew out of Georgia’s experience with the National League of Cities’ Affordable Housing Program and the success stories that are celebrated at the annual Magnolia Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing. Participating communities will:
- Create a community housing team
- Develop new ideas about meeting local housing needs and enhancing community development
- Learn about approaches and available resources to improve the housing stock
- Produce a community housing plan
- Begin implementation of their plan
