About Your Major

  • Course Information
  • Course Prerequistes and Descriptions
  • HACE Honors Courses
  • Double Majors:
If you want to pursue two degrees at the same time you are considered a double major. Some of the classes you take can count toward both degrees, so to graduate with two degrees you just have to take the additional classes required by the second major. You may even be able to count these additional classes as electives for the first major. However, if you are double majoring you are not eligible to graduate with honors in the second major. Contact your advisor for additional information if you are interested in a dual major.

If you already have a bachelor's degree from the University the requirements to earn an additional degree are the same as those stated above, except that you have to meet the residency requirement. The residency requirement states that at least 30 semester hours must be taken at the University of Georgia. However, if it has been over five years since you attended the University, previous courses taken at the University do not count toward the residency requirement. Then you must take at least 30 hours of course work over the amount required for the first degree.

For the most current information check the online bulletin at: www.bulletin.uga.edu.

  • Legislative Aide Program

Students may serve as state legislative aides to Athens-Clarke County legislators or the Legislative Women's Caucus. One student each year is also selected to complete an internship in Washington D.C., working with a congressional legislator or a government agency. Both legislative and congressional aides receive course credit and a small stipend funded by donors to the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. They also enroll in an orientation class, and they complete a policy-related project as part of their internship experience. Applications are typically due each year by early March. For more information, contact Mick Coleman.
