2. Announcement: FACS Convocation Registration Open Now

Spring and Summer Graduates:

You are invited to attend FACS Convocation on Friday, May 5, at 4:00 p.m. at The Classic Center located at 300 N Thomas Street, Athens, GA 30601.

FACS Convocation is a more personal ceremony for all graduation candidates of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. We hope that you will give us the opportunity to recognize you at this time. Family members are invited to attend. The event is free, but registration is required.

3. Announcement:  Senior Signature

All May, August, and December 2017 graduates:

You have until Friday, March 31 to “Make your Mark” on FACS by giving a gift through the Senior Signature Program.

Senior Signature consists of a $50 gift: $20 of which goes straight to the Georgia Fund; the other $30 you can designate to any fund on campus. It’d be great if you chose to give your $30 to FACS – whether it be to the college, the Student Success and Advising Center, your departments, etc.

4. Announcement: SGA Late Night Transportation Changes

The Student Government Association at the University of Georgia requests your feedback on the proposed changes to UGA Campus Transit night service for Fall 2017. Before finalizing these changes, SGA wants to hear from you. As such, they will be holding an open forum next Thursday, March 30 at 5:30 pm in Tate 479.

5. Leadership Opportunity: BeYou Peer Educator Applications

UGA’ University Health Center organization, BeYou is currently recruiting peer educators for the fall.

BeYou is a body positivity peer educator group that encourages students to verbally challenge the “thin idea” that is prevalent in our society and the media through interactive role plays and written exercises. If you are interested in becoming a BeYou peer educator, please click on the graphic above to apply.

Applications are due Wednesday, April 12th and you will be notified about interviews the following Monday.

If you are selected to be a BeYou peer educator you will be required to attend a training session on Saturday, August 19th from 10am-4pm. As a reminder, being a BeYou educator is a year-long commitment beginning Fall 2017.

8. Internship Opportunity: Corporate Environments Intern Application


 

Corporate Environments, a furniture showroom company out of Atlanta is currently still seeking interns for its design department. Below is a description of the internship for this summer. It is It’s part-time for now, with potential to develop into a full-time role.

Position Overview:

Responsible for assisting with the maintenance and organization of the library and all library related materials (electronic and hard copy). Support sales, sales support and design departments on their needs. The ideal candidate would also be an enthusiast about design and a student or graduate in Interior Design from an accredited Interior Design Program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with furniture pricing and specifications using the resource library, AutoCad/CAP specification program and Excel pricing spreadsheets.
  • Develop and create presentation boards (either electronic and/or actual physical boards) to aid designers and the sales team.
  • Assist with resource library materials, catalogs and finish samples. Tag LEED/LEVEL approval items with in each manufacturer.
  • Illustrate / render small design projects for designers & sales team to create PowerPoint presentations.
  • Help organize elements of the Resource Library.
  • Attend industry networking events to gain exposure to the design world and potential jobs in Atlanta.

Arch Ready: Social Media and the Job Search

Date: March 28, 2017

Time: 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm

Location: Miller Learning Center, Room 150

Come to this workshop to learn how these platforms can be a useful professional tool for you. In this workshop, we'll help you understand how a positive or negative social media presence can either help or hurt your job/internship search, and teach practical ways to “clean up” your digital identity. You'll also learn how to utilize popular social media platforms in your job search.

Personal Statement Writing Lab

Date: March 29, 2017

Time: 4:00pm until 5:00pm

Location; Miller Learning Center

If you're applying to medical school, dental school, or any health profession school during the 2018 application cycle, it's time to start thinking about writing your personal statement. In this small group session, we'll discuss what admissions committees look for in personal statements and go over techniques to improve your writing skills. Please bring your laptop and be ready to write. Attendance is limited to 30 students, and pre-registration is required via Handshake.

Arch Ready: Budgeting and Money Management

11. FACS Pick of the Week!

The Student Association of Family and Consumer Sciences will hold its monthly meeting Tuesday, March 28 at 5:30 in Dawson 116. We will have pizza and a speaker telling us how we can be involved in GAFCS even after graduation! We hope to see you there!
