1. Announcement: SSAC Hours

The Student Success and Advising Center will be closed on Friday, May 6, 8:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., for staff to attend the UGA Advisor Workshop. The Center will also be closed on Tuesday, May 10, 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Just take a selfie with your Top Dawg and post your story with #MyTopDawg. 

Leading up to Commencement, UGA will feature #MyTopDawg posts on UGA social accounts, on the UGA.edu homepage, and display them in Sanford Stadium on May 13!

Please note the following significant changes to the organization registration process. Registration is open now.

Re-Registering Organizations

Organizations fully registered in the 2015-16 academic term

The process for re-registering organizations will be entirely online. As there is no information session required, you must read and understand the policies (and reference them when necessary) on the “Resources and Forms” section of our website.

Re-Registration Process

  1. Ensure the newest primary contact is listed as primary contact on the organization’s UGAin page. If they are not, the new primary contact must fill out the “Primary Contact Change Request Form” found here.
  2. Await e-mailed instructions and complete tasks in e-mail.
  3. Once you have received an e-mail confirming that you are listed as the new primary contact, proceed to next step.
  4. Primary Contact:
    1. Go to UGA Involvement Network, sign in, and navigate to your organization’s page
    2. Click the “Register” prompt on the blue bar underneath the menu
    3. Complete registration by Tuesday, May 31.

New Student Organization Registration

Organizations not registered in the 2015-16 academic term

New organizations will be required to attend a mandatory information session prior to beginning registration online. Periodic sessions will be held throughout the 2016-17 academic term. For summer registration, please see the information and deadline below.

Required to start a new organization:

A minimum of 6 full-time students. Hours of enrollment required for full-time status are as follows:

Undergraduate: 12+ credit hours

Graduate: 9+ credit hours

Law: 12+ credit hours

New Organization Registration Process

  1. The Chief Officer must attend one mandatory information session, and other members are also welcome to attend. The remaining Spring 2016 session is:

Monday, April 18, 3:00-4:30 p.m., Tate 137

Additional dates throughout next fall and spring semesters will be announced later.

  1. Complete the online registration form
  2. Details will be discussed at the information session
  3. For summer registration, the deadline for completion is Tuesday, May 31.

7. Course Announcement: FACS 2011

Earn course credit for active involvement in Enactus and/or Society of Entrepreneurs!

FACS 2011, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, will be offered Fall 2016 on Wednesday and Friday mornings, 9:05-9:55 a.m., in 101 Dawson taught by Dr. Sheri Worthy. This course is beneficial for students interested in creating and growing their own business. You will draw upon business techniques and private sector approaches to find solutions to social, cultural or environmental problems. Teams will create and implement entrepreneurial projects that empower people to transform opportunities into sustainable progress for themselves and their community.

This 2-credit hour class will give you credit toward the UGA Entrepreneurship Certificate and can be taken PRIOR to admission into the Entrepreneurship Certificate.


8. Course Announcement: FDNS 2050

The Department of Foods and Nutrition is offering the course FDNS 2050, Introduction to Sports Nutrition and Wellness, in Fall 2016. It will meet Tuesday/Thursday, 2:00-3:15 p.m., in 430 Chemistry. The course will be taught by Dr. Jamie Cooper. It is 3 credit hours, has no pre-requisites, and is open to all students. The CRN is 30119.

The course is an introduction to healthy eating, active living, and human performance, with an emphasis on sport nutrition and wellness across the lifespan. Topics will include dietary supplementations for athletes, which foods and fluids are best for optimal athletic performance and daily health, and nutrition practices for building muscle and losing body fat.


9. Internship Opportunity: Governor’s Office

Governor Nathan Deal’s office is seeking interns for this coming fall and would like to have some UGA students!

Students meeting the following requirements may be considered for an internship:

  • Must be a currently enrolled junior, senior, graduate student, or law student, or no more than one year past graduation
  • Must have a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • Must be a Georgia resident or attending/attended a Georgia college, university, or law school

10. Research Opportunity: CURO Research Assistantship

CURO Research Assistantship

CURO will provide 500 $1,000 stipends to outstanding undergraduate students in an effort to encourage and foster active participation in faculty-mentored research. The CURO Research Assistantship page has been updated with deadlines and student resources. Applications for Fall 2016 are due Wednesday, June 1, at 4:00 p.m.

Assistantships are one-semester, non-renewable awards for Fall 2016. All CURO Undergraduate Research Assistants will be required to present at the spring CURO Symposium. Participating students may register for CURO research course credit. Participation in CURO research courses remains open to all undergraduate students, regardless of their Honors status, major, or selection as a research assistant. See CURO course information for details. If beneficial for their programs of study, students may conduct research with faculty members outside their department, college or school, including those units that do not have any or many undergraduate programs.

13. FACS Events Pick of the Week!

FACS Convocation

Friday, May 13, 3:00 p.m.

Classic Center

UGA will host commencement for undergraduates on Friday, May 13, at 7:00 p.m. in Sanford Stadium. The graduate ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Stegeman Coliseum. Graduates are encouraged to participate in the campus commencement activities.

A more personal ceremony for FACS graduates will be held on Friday, May 13, at 3:00 p.m. at The Classic Center. We hope that you will give us the opportunity to recognize you at this time. Family members are invited to attend.

The event is free, but registration is required. If you have not yet registered, please do so here. The deadline to register is Friday, May 6.

We know you’ll be taking lots of pictures! Be sure to use the hashtags #facs16 and #uga16 when you post your graduation pics. Also consider tagging us on Facebook and Instagram.
