The UGA Career Center, in partnership with the LGBT Resource Center, would like to invite you to An Evening with Professionals. Come hear a panel discussion with out, LGBTQ-identified professionals from different industries who will briefly share their professional stories, including how they came to terms with their identity in the workplace, how they have balanced their identity with other aspects of their work-life, and how their identity has affected their career choice.

4. Scholarship Opportunity

The Carolyn Berdanier Undergraduate Research Grant application is now available.  The application deadline is Tuesday, September 12, 2017 and the final recipients will be recognized at the FACS award luncheon held on October 20th. The application can be found here.


5. FACS Events Pick of the Week!

FDN Seminar – “Our battle with Gwyneth Paltrow: Risk Perceptions and Behaviors of Shoppers and Home Chefs?”

This seminar will be presented by Dr. Ben Chapman, an Associate Professor and Extension Specialist at North Carolina State University. Dr. Chapman’s area of expertise includes consumer, retail and food safety culture, home food preservation and communicating food safety risk reduction. Lunch will be served afterwards.

6. Bulldog Basics

Bulldog Basics is a collaborative effort led by the Student Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (SAFCS) and supported by FACS and Embark UGA. A variety of personal hygiene items are available for students to access as needed. Bulldog Basics is funded by a UGA Sustainability Grant, awarded fall 2016 and by a UGA Parents and Families Leadership Council Grant, awarded in spring 2017. Item donations are accepted in the Student Success and Advising Center (112 Dawson Hall).

Location:  Dawson Hall, 1st & 3rd floors, across from the elevator

Hours:  Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 7:00 pm


7. New Deadline for FACS 100 Centennial Honorees

In 2018, we will recognize 100 individuals who positively shaped the College of Family and Consumer Sciences from its origins to present day.

Alumni, former and current faculty members and staff, friends and donors are all eligible for this recognition. Deserving individuals may be honored posthumously.

All honorees will be celebrated at the FACS 100 Gala: A Centennial Celebration, on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at the Classic Center in Athens.

The deadline for nominations for the FACS 100 Centennial Honorees has been extended to Sunday, November 5, 2017. Click here to learn more and submit your online nomination.
