I coordinate UGA SNAP-Ed statewide social marketing efforts to influence positive health behaviors. I provide experience, guidance, and skill to a statewide team of nutrition and education professionals who utilize cutting edge and traditional methods of communication to create and distribute educational materials and health messages.
I am an alumnus of The University of Georgia and joined the UGA SNAP-Ed team January 1st 2015. Prior to joining UGA SNAP-Ed, I was a Public Relations Specialist for UGA Food Services where I had worked for five years.
Food is one of my passions, and I am proud to work on a team dedicated to improving the health and lives of Georgians.
I was a co-recipient of the 2016 Georgia, Southern Region, and National level Program Excellence through Research Award from the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS). The complete list of award winners includes Judy Hibbs, Jung Sun Lee, Sarah Stotz, Alice White, Rachel Hagues, County Extension FACS agents: Rhea Bentley, Terri Black, Christa Campbell, Sylvia Davis, Katie Hiers, Lisa Jordan, Dana Lynch, Susan Moore, Roxie Price, Caroline Richardson, Laura Smith, and SNAP-Ed Program Assistant Shawanda Johnson. The award emphasizes the use of research to improve existing programs or to develop new programs and was given in recognition of research conducted in 2015.
I have been part of The University of Georgia Social Media Users Group (SMUG) since 2012. SMUG is a professional network of Social Media users at the University of Georgia who meet to share ideas and success stories, conduct focus groups, and hear from guest speakers in order to improve the quality of communication on social media from divisions, departments, and groups at UGA. I have presented in SMUG and provided guidance to campus departments about advertising on Social Media and in 2015 I was tapped to serve on the interview committee for UGA's first campus-wide Social Media Coordinator.
I am also a member of the ASNNA Social Marketing Committee where I share success stories, best practices, and learn from other Social Marketing professionals in nutrition education from across the country.
I've been fortunate to volunteer my time for several causes at UUFA over the years. When able, I've served as a volunteer making healthy lunches as part of the Smart Lunch, Smart Kids program - a program that provides healthy lunch during summer break to kids who receive free or reduced lunch during the school year. You can also find me in the sound booth during Sunday service at least a few times most months.
I am a registered marrow donor, blood donor, and strong supporter of volunteer blood donation. I regularly give about every three months and think it's an easy way to directly impact the world and save lives. I always welcome anyone who wants to join me when I donate. If you're interested in donation but are hesitant to do so or need a friend to go with, please don't hesitate to ask.
