Our faculty members prepare professionals to provide educational, counseling and advocacy services needed for children and families to function more effectively. The program covers all aspects of families throughout the life cycle. Graduates go into a wide variety of professions in public and private sector human services.
The Department of Foods and Nutrition provides knowledge for real life in all aspects of food and nutrition. Undergraduates are exploring the interrelationships of nutrition, foods and health as they develop critical thinking and problem solving skills. Graduates become registered dietitians, attend medical, pharmacy and dental school, and accept positions with national food processors.
The Department of Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors offers majors in Fashion Merchandising and Furnishings and Interiors. Internships are an integral part of the program, providing students with the opportunity to combine their academic learning with work experience. Graduates become interior designers, showroom representatives, buyers, open their own businesses, and become executives for national retailers.
The undergraduate program in the Department of Housing and Consumer Economics is diverse. Our alumni consistently give our faculty high ratings for the quality of their instruction. Students benefit from, and are involved in, the quality research our faculty and graduate students do. HACE majors have the opportunity to participate in internships that extend their learning through workplace experiences. Graduates are entrepreneurs in a variety of businesses, become financial counselors, and work in a variety of local, state and federal positions in the areas of housing and consumer advising.
Family and Consumer Sciences Education prepares educators who develop program to strengthen home, family and community life. The curriculum provides study in instructional methodology as well as in child and family development, foods and nutrition, housing and consumer economics, and textiles, merchandising, and interiors. Graduates are employed in middle schools, high schools, technical colleges and with the Cooperative Extension Service.
