 Study Tour in Foods and Nutrition: Food in Culture & Health - Mexico
Description of program:
A unique travel opportunity for anyone majoring in dietetics, nutrition science, public health, health promotion and behavior or anyone interested in health and well-being. The University of Veracruz in Xalapa will collaborate with UGA faculty to provide the instructional and school-based components of the program. The course covers topics related to foods, health care, and cultural awareness in the relationship between patients and health provider in existing hospitals or health facilities in Xalapa. The course will have a service-learning component addressing childhood obesity.
While studying in Xalapa, students will:
- Have day-to-day interaction with health provider and patients in the local hospital
- Have the opportunity to improve their conversational Spanish by living with a local family during their stay
Application Deadline:
- Application and $500 deposit due by February 12, 2010 by 3:00 p.m. (Checks and money orders only--checks made out to UGA-Xalapa Study Abroad ) to Nicki Sauls room 112 Dawson
Approximate Cost: $3,125 - This includes airfare, excursions to archeological areas and Golf of Mexico coast as well as a three weeks home stay with a local family, museum entry fees etc. (the program fee does NOT include tuition or any fees associated with tuition)
