UGA Commencement

The University of Georgia will host commencement for undergraduates on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. in Sanford Stadium. The graduate ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. in Stegeman Coliseum. Clear Bag Policy:  The new clear bag policy that has been implemented for UGA athletic events is also in effect for all students and guests who will be attending UGA Commencement.  Please follow the guidelines in the Permitted/Prohibited Items section.

FACS Convocation

A more personal ceremony in which graduates of the College of Family and Consumer Sciences will be recognized on stage, will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Classic Center in downtown Athens. Click here for directions to the Classic Center.  We hope that you will give us the opportunity to recognize you at this time. Family members are invited to attend. The event is free, but registration is required.

Registration for FACS Convocation

In addition to registering for the UGA undergraduate ceremony, a separate registration is required for student participation in the FACS Convocation. Registration will be open from February 1 - April 13, 2018.


Academic Attire

Appropriate academic regalia must be worn to participate in FACS Convocation. Caps, gowns and hoods may be purchased at the UGA Bookstore. Contact the University of Georgia Bookstore at 706-542-3171 or via email for purchasing information. Candidates should wear their tassels over the right eye until the degree is awarded and over the left eye afterwards.

Arrival Instructions

The FACS convocation is expected to last approximately one and a half hours.  Please arrive at the Classic Center at 1:45 p.m. to check in.  FACS representatives will be located near easels with each department's name.  You will obtain an introduction card and line up with the other graduation candidates behind the easel for your department.


Parking is available at the Classic Center.


Diplomas will be mailed from the UGA Registrar's Office approximately 6 weeks after commencement.
