  • Be sure your MyID and password are all set, including secret questions. You won't be able to register without it!
  • Memorize your student ID number (81X) or keep it handy. It is something you will need to know throughout your time at UGA.
  • Familiarize yourself with the BulletinDegreeWorks, and Athena.
  • Avoid having any holds on your account by taking care of these common issues ahead of time:
    • Immunizations - A Certificate of Immunization must be on record before you can register for classes. Contact the University Health Center at rhi@uhs.uga.edu or 706-542-8617 if you have any questions.

  • Take any placement tests before orientation, if at all possible. See our Placement & Diagnostic Tests page for more information.
  • You will be required to take a 1-hour First-Year Odyssey seminar during your first year. Save time during registration by browsing the 300+ topics beforehand and making note of any that interest you.
  • Learn more about your major and related careers.
  • Please refer to the correspondence you received from UGA Admissions regarding parking, arrival time, etc.

What to Expect

Academic Area Meeting

11:15 a.m.

112 Dawson Hall

At the academic area meeting, we will provide a brief introduction to the college, our majors, and opportunities.

Advising & Registration

12:00 p.m.

Dawson Hall

We will meet together in a computer lab, so you can register with the assistance of your academic advisor and current FACS students. Other FACS staff will be available to help troubleshoot any registration issues. The Academic Advisement Hold on your account will be cleared at this time.

You will have the opportunity to talk in-depth with an advisor about your major, degree requirements, placement test results, and credit from testing. Together, you will draft a list of classes, and alternatives, for your first semester, then you will immediately begin registering for classes. No need to return to the MLC!

When you are done, you are free to go to lunch, get your UGA ID card, go on a tour, or take care of any other unfinished business.

Guests are welcome to attend academic area meetings. However, advising and registration sessions are for students only. At that time, guests are invited to walk around and enjoy our self-guided tour or hop on our free Wi-Fi and wait outside the Student Success and Advising Center, 112 Dawson Hall. Advising and registration usually takes about an hour.

After Orientation

Academic advising is a central component of our mission as a center and an integral part of your experience at UGA and within the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Due to this central focus, feedback about your advising experience is important to us to meet the needs of current and future students. At the conclusion of your orientation session with the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, please click here to tell us about your advising and registration experience. It will take approximately eight minutes to complete. Your responses will remain confidential. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Student Success and Advising Center at success@uga.edu.
