Welcome to TIP-PFFP at UGA
Georgia's apparel, carpet, and textile industries form the largest manufacturing sector in the state, employing 30 percent of all manufacturing workers and accounting for an annual payroll exceeding $2.5 billion. Recognizing the importance of these industries to Georgia, the state legislature established the Traditional Industries Program for Polymer, Fiber and Fabric Properties(TIP-PFFP), an industry-driven research and technical assistance initiative which addresses critical technology needs facing these industries. This support has been continued and strengthened under Governor Sonny Perdue.
The University of Georgia takes a very active role in research and technology transfers oriented toward solving problems and creating opportunities for Georgia's textile, carpet and apparel companies. At UGA, the faculty in textile science, along with collaborators in biological engineering and biochemistry at UGA and textile engineering faculty at Georgia Tech, have spearheaded research in environmental chemistry, innovative biotechnology applications, product development and recycling of textile by-products. Much of this research has been done under the auspices of the Traditional Industries Program for Polymer, Fiber and Fabric Properties.
