Interests:
I am an Assistant Professor in the Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors Department at the College of Family and Consumer Sciences and manager of the college's Historic Clothing and Textile Collection. I am originally from Costa Rica and I have a Ph.D. in Theater from Florida State University. My current research focuses on dress and popular culture in the second half of the twentieth century with an emphasis on male fashion and I am also very interested in the relation between fashion and art and the applications of Jungian archetypal analysis to fashion. Currently, I am working on a project developing museum education materials for visually impaired patrons. Since my background is in Theater Arts, I have also worked as an actor, director, and designer in several theater productions in Costa Rica and The United States. I am also involved in activities involving the use of popular theater in health education with migrant farm workers and other disadvantaged communities.
