Session: "Latino Workforce Issues and Injury Prevention: Developing and Implementing Injury Prevention Programs in the Latino Community

Speaker: Ana Soler

o 12.5 % of total U.S. Population
o Half of population live in California and Texas
o 80% are under 35 years of age
o The largest number of Latino population in Georgia:
o Whitfield
o Hall
o Gwinnett
o Dekalb
o Cobb
o Fulton

o Family oriented with interdependence is the most common culture
o Georgia Latinos are primarily first generation versus California with third and fourth generation Latinos.
o Programs must address culture and traditions from a trusted community person.
o Peer educators and lay health workers are effective.
o Demonstrations are also effective
o Use true family stories not celebrities.
