Session: Latino Workforce Issues and Injury Prevention: The Role of Insurance in Reducing Access and Barriers and Quality of Care Disparities Among Hispanic Population

Speaker: Jennifer Edwards: The Commonwealth Fund

o Based on New York Funds research
o Growing number of uninsured has increased from 7 to 11 million
o 1/3 or more uninsured. Twice the rate of the U.S. population. Children are doing better because they are eligible for Medicaid. This is attributed nationwide not just to individual states.

o Why so many uninsured?
o Low income and not eligible for publicly extended insurance programs
o Employers do not offer coverage; particularly small companies where Hispanics tend to work.
