Member of Georgia Extension Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (GEAFCS) & National Extension Association of Family & Consumer Sciences (NEAFCS) – I currently serve as the Vice President of Awards and Recognition for GEAFCS

I am a native of Laurens County and currently reside there in Cedar Grove, Ga.

How long have you been working with Extension?

I have been with Extension for nine years – I am the FACS Agent in Laurens County, and I supervise two wonderful EFNEP Program Assistants (Judy Phillips and Teri Edge) working in Johnson, Laurens and Washington counties. I focus primarily on nutrition education, child care provider training and food safety education.

What originally attracted you to Extension work and what would you say is the best part of the job?

In my previous job as a Community Resource Specialist, I had the privilege of meeting and working with two wonderful extension agents – Jeanette Cadwell from Dodge County and Kathy Baldwin from Bleckley County. I learned a lot about Extension from them and remember wishing I could do what they did!  I love the fact that my job is different every day – I never get bored!  I have always wanted to help people and to make a difference in people’s lives, and Extension gives me the opportunity to do that every day. I feel incredibly lucky to have a job that I love so much!

Can you tell us about any role models or inspirations you might have?

My parents are my role models. They taught me the value of faith, family and standing up for what I believe in.  They also taught me to appreciate people’s differences – the world would be a very boring place if we were all alike!

Any favorite books or movies?

I love to read – probably my favorite books are the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles.  I also love going to the movies – I am a science fiction geek, so I love all of the Star Wars franchise and all of the X-Men and Avengers movies.

What has been your proudest moment as an Extension agent?

It’s hard to pinpoint just one. My proudest moments are when program participants tell me that they learned something from my class or that I helped them in some way – those are the moments I live for!

What are some of your hobbies or favorite activities outside of work?

I enjoy spending time with my family – especially my beautiful nieces – Madison (7) and Makenzie (4) and my cats – Itchy, Scratchy and Pumpkin.  I also love making jewelry, reading, writing and shopping.

If you weren’t an Extension agent, what other line of work do you think you would have pursued?

I probably would’ve been a freelance writer.
