Learning and Leading Together in Diversity and Inclusion
Statement
The Georgia Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (GAFCS) is committed to diversity and inclusion as we work to address quality of life issues that impact our communities. We condemn all acts of injustice and discrimination. Our commitment to being an inclusive and diverse organization means we must work toward these principles in our meetings, events, outreach, and community. Our plan of action within our organization is to:
- Create a welcoming environment for current and future family and consumer sciences professionals and students
- Align our work with the American Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (AAFCS) Community of Diversity and Inclusion, International Federation of Home Economics (IFHE)-US, and the National Coalition for Black Development in Family and Consumer Sciences (NCBDFCS)
- Highlight diverse stories in our communications which include the newsletter and website
- Integrate diversity discussions into GAFCS board meetings and events
- Increase attendee and university representation at our annual conference
- Mentor students and young professionals especially those from underrepresented groups
