Conference promotes future of sustainable polymers, fibers

Nearly 90 participants from industry and academia representing 17 countries attended the Fiber Society fall meeting and technical conferenced hosted by the FACS department of textiles, merchandising and interiors Nov. 8-10.

The theme of the conference was “Advanced, Smart and Sustainable Polymers, Fibers and Textiles.”

Topics included the latest innovations in the field of fibers, along with process technologies, sustainable materials, smart fibers and textiles, nanomaterials, biomaterials, composites, eco-textiles, fashion, design and product development.

Darya Asheghali, a graduate student in chemistry, took first place in the graduate student paper competition sponsored by Johnson & Johnson.

Sergiy Minko, the Georgia Power Professor of Fiber and Polymer Science within the TMI department, served as technical chair of the conference.
