Donna W. Hyland, president and chief executive officer of Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, will deliver the Undergraduate Commencement address on Friday, December 18 in Stegeman Coliseum. The ceremony will begin at 9:30 a.m. Watch for the new FACS college Gonfalon (banner) on the stage behind the platform party.

FACS College Convocation will begin promptly at 12:00 noon in the Mahler Hall of the Georgia Center. Eighteen FACS faculty are registered to attend. The following students will receive special recognition and join the Platform Party:

  • Taylor Hollingsworth – Outstanding Senior, FDN
  • Kayla Oakley - Academic Achievement, HDFS
  • Aaron Gennuso – Student Perspective, FHCE
  • Jacqueline DiStefano – Student Challenge, HDFS

Several graduating seniors have been featured in the UGA Countdown to Commencement, including Ms. Funmi Jemilugba, BSFCS in HDFS and BA in psychology. FACS student profiles are available for you to review on the Facebook page

The university graduate ceremony will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Stegeman Coliseum. Graduate commencement speaker will be Cheryl Davenport Dozier, President of Savannah State University. Both UGA ceremonies will be broadcast live online at


Congratulations to Suraj Sharma, TMI, on being named the recipient of the Sweaney Innovation Fund allocation. Suraj will have access to up to $5,000 in the calendar year 2016 in order to fulfill the project selected by a committee of faculty of the college. His project was selected to incorporate 3D printing into the Textiles, Merchandising and Interiors curriculum.


Please join me in welcoming to the Griffin campus starting January 8th our newest FHCE member, Effie Antonoudi, CPA. Ms. Antonoudi will teach courses and support advising, recruitment, and program management. She comes to us well prepared to support financial planning and consumer economics, having served as an international tax manager and supported student services at the Executive MBA department. She will provide administrative support for the FACS majors on the Griffin Campus and serve as a liaison with the other UGA Griffin Campus schools and colleges, other institutions of higher education, and the Griffin community.


Deadline for all awards is the close of business on Wednesday, January 20, 2016.
