1. SSAC Live Chat!


The Student Success and Advising Center features a Live Chat on the Student Success and Advising Center webpage. To access the Live Chat, visit www.fcs.uga.edu/ssac/, click on the Live Chat button on the webpage, and have your questions answered. You can ask about changing your major, signing up for an advising appointment, getting involved, and more!

This Live Chat feature is available Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 8:00 – 10:00 a.m. and Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. If staff are unavailable, questions will be routed to the center’s success@uga.edu email.

2. New Hours for Dawson Drop-Ins


Do you have a few quick questions? Come to Dawson Drop-ins in 112 Dawson Hall with no appointment needed!

FACS now has new hours for the fall semester!

Monday, Tuesday & Thursday:  2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Wednesday:  10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Diversity and Inclusion Networking Dinner 2018

You're invited to attend a special Diversity Networking Dinner hosted by the UGA Career Center. This unique event will take place at Maggiano’s Little Italy (Buckhead) in Atlanta, GA on Wednesday, November 7th, 2018 from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. Dinner and transportation will be provided. All students are welcome at this event; however pre-registration is required and space is limited.

This is an opportunity for you to interact with employers in a more intimate setting away from campus! Past confirmed employer participants include Aldi, Aflac, Amazon, AT &T, First Data, Lincoln Financial, Raymond James, SunTrust, Teach for America, and Target.   1. Complete and print the Diversity Networking Dinner Student Registration Form linked below (in either .pdf or .docx format) and bring it to the Career Center Front Desk, located on the 2nd floor of Clark Howell Hall.

  2. Bring a $10 deposit to the Career Center Front Desk, located on the 2nd floor of Clark Howell Hall. The deposit will be returned to you on the evening of the dinner. Your deposit can be submitted via cash or check. The deadline to register is Thursday, Nov. 1st at 5:00 p.m.

4. FACS – Scholarship Opportunities 

If you’re looking for funds to support your academic studies, the College of Family and Consumer Sciences has several scholarship opportunities available for FACS undergraduate and graduate students to consider. Scholarship applications will open in November and the application deadline is March 1, 2019.  Complete details may be found at: https://www.fcs.uga.edu/ssac/scholarships.

Study Away (international and domestic) scholarships help cover the cost of your trip.  Students majoring in a FACS degree program and participating in a FACS study away program can apply.  Applications are being accepted now and the deadline to apply is January 25, 2019. 5. FACS Events Pick of the Week!

Deadline extended: Spring 2019 FACS Legislative Aide (LA) Internship Program

The new Spring 2019 FACS Legislative Aide (LA) Internship Program deadline is Friday, November 2nd. The stipend is now $4,000!

Experience the excitement of legislation in action and learn hands-on skills in a high speed environment! This internship is open to FACS undergraduate and graduate students.

  • Connect first hand with how policies affect you and the everyday lives of Georgians
  • Impact your academic and future career with networking opportunities by attending events/meetings with and for your assigned legislator
  • Receive a monthly stipend during your internship
  • Earn valuable experience and knowledge of the legislative process while working in a full-time position
  • As an undergraduate, fulfill the Experiential learning requirement
  • Receive academic course credit

The FACS Legislative Aide Internship Program is an exclusive opportunity for FACS undergraduate and graduate students. LAs intern for a Georgia senator/representative during the Georgia General Assembly session at the Capitol in Atlanta during the spring. Interns also act as a guide at the college’s annual FACS Day at the Capitol on Thursday, February 14, 2019.

Spots are limited! Applications are available here. To apply, complete the online application and submit required materials. Once all application materials are received, an interview will be scheduled with Dean Fox and the program director.

6. Bulldog Basics Update – New Locations

Bulldog Basics is a collaborative effort led by the Student Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (SAFCS) and supported by FACS and Embark UGA. A variety of personal hygiene items are available for students to access as needed. Bulldog Basics is funded by a UGA Sustainability Grant awarded fall 2016 and by a UGA Parents and Families Leadership Council Grant, awarded in spring 2017. Item donations are accepted in the Student Success and Advising Center (112 Dawson Hall).

  • Tate Student Center - Center for Leadership and Service Unisex Bathroom
  • Milledge Hall - Unisex Bathroom
  • ASPIRE Clinic - Hallway to Graduate Offices

7. FACS Study Away!

FACS Destination of the Week: London

About London! This program not only allows students to earn class credit, but students have the opportunity to experience a beautiful city! Students are housed in the heart of London where there are opportunities to tour museums, visit historic sites, and attend art festivals. Students are able to gain valuable experience while being involved with the fashion industry and design studios in London. This program has a lot to offer and if thinking about applying, feel free to attend one of the upcoming information sessions in November!

Class Credit! Students are able to earn 6-9 hours of class credit. To see the list of the courses offered, please click here.

Scholarships! The deadline to apply for FACS Study Away scholarships is January 25, 2019. Requirements and applications can be found on the  FACS Study Away Scholarships website.

Student Merchandising Association

FACS Club of the Week presents: Student Merchandising Association (SMA)

What is SMA? The Student Merchandising Association (SMA) strives to equip its members with the skills needed in the fashion industry. This organization gives students the opportunity to participate in merchandising, styling, fashion shows, risk management, advertising, and more! SMA takes pride in keeping their members engaged and everyone is needed due the organization’s high involvement in campus fashion events.

Benefits of Becoming a Member! SMA members not only gain experience while working hands on with Athens boutiques during Fashion Week, but students are also able to network and build relationships with other members and student organizations.   

Join! This organization, is designated to students of any major who share an interest in fashion. Fashion Merchandising majors are strongly encouraged to join! To become a member, you must submit your $25 dues.

Already a Member? Be More Involved! Attending the SMA meetings is a great way to stay connected with any upcoming events or guest speakers the club may have. Each year, SMA participates in UGA Annual Fashion Week. This is a great way to put your fashion skills to the test! Students are able to help with styling and production of the show! For more ways to be involved, please contact one of the SMA Committee members.

9. SAFCS – Upcoming Meeting

The Student Association of Family and Consumer Sciences will have a meeting on October 30th, at 5:30 p.m., in Dawson Hall Rm. 202! All FACS Majors are invited to attend! We will have snacks and lots of fun!

10. Fall Break 2018

Students’ Fall Break

There will be no classes on Friday October 26th, due to Fall Break. Stay safe, and enjoy your weekend! Go Dawgs!
