Mason has been with the Farm Again program since June of 2015.  He brings knowledge in agricultural practices, assistive technology and worksite accommodations.  Mason grew up in a rural middle Georgia community growing produce at his family’s home and working on the neighbor’s cattle ranch with their son. During high school, He was a member of the Lamar County FFA taking courses in horticulture and agricultural mechanics. After High School, Mason attended Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, as a Rural Studies Major and concentrated in Rural Business and Economic Development. While in college, he began working at the UGA experiment station under Dr. Glen Rains, working with paratisoid wasps detecting peanut damage and assisted with the AgrAbility of Georgia Project in 2011 and then with Dr. Changying Li working with diseased onion sensing technology during 2012. In late 2012, Mason began working at the USDA Agricultural Research Services Experiment Station in the Southeastern Watershed Research Lab in Tifton as a student worker until graduation in 2013, then becoming a field technician. While working for USDA, he maintained the Little River Watershed Research project stream sites, maintaining auto-samplers, taking samples and collecting data; maintained and conducted Green House Gas studies on Napier Grass and Energy Cane as a bioenergy crop for the Coastal Plains area; assisted with precision agriculture projects, taking deep core soil samples, plant samples, and soil moisture samples that were measured against corresponding yield data from the fields to create field nutrient analysis maps; grew, sampled and harvested miscanthus grass as part of bioenergy research projects and assisted with research on traditional South Georgia row crops including cotton, corn and peanuts. Mason is located at the UGA Tifton Coastal Plains Experiment Station in the Entomology Department under the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences.
