My general research interests are related to how nutrition education and access to local foods through gardening, farmers markets, CSA's can increase longterm health outcomes through dietary changes. Related research interests revolve around how sustanability and dietary guidance can impact federal nutrition guidelines and support impactful policy, systems, and environmental (PSE) changes.

Current Research

  • Assist the SNAP-Ed evaluation team with formative qualitative data analysis of focus groups and phone interviews for two unique nutrition education curricula. We are utilizing constant comparative and inter-rater reliability agreement methods to achieve consensus among themes inductive to the data. The data analyzed inform the development of content and formatting for both the Food Talk: Better U curriculum and the Food Talk: Farmers Market curriculum.
  • My dissertation research focuses on understanding the impacts of a Fruit and Vegetable Prescription Program (FVRx). Utilizing a non-randomized controlled trial and mixed methods the study of this program will attempt to understand the impacts nutrition education and produce subsidies have on participants' food purchasing behaviors, dietary and nutrition related behaviors, food security and health status. We utilize self-reported measures, collected/abstracted measures, and auido-recorded interviews to understand how the program influences participant health outcomes as well as their perspectives and experiences with purchasing and consuming local produce.
