What to Expect During Your Orientation Session

Academic Area Meeting

112 Dawson Hall - 11:30 a.m.

During the academic area meeting, we will introduce you to the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, our degree programs, and opportunities available to our students. There will also be time for questions.

Advising & Registration

Appointment times will vary

Students will receive an email on morning the of their orientation session with an advising appointment time. Advising appointments will begin immediately following the academic area meeting.

At your individual appointment, you will have the opportunity to speak with an academic advisor about your major, degree requirements, placement test results, and any credit from testing. Together, you will draft a list of suggested classes, and alternatives, for your first semester schedule. The Academic Advisement Hold on your account will be cleared after your appointment is complete.

After your advising appointment you will be able to return to the Miller Learning Center to register for classes. You are also free to go to lunch, get your UGA ID card, go on a tour, or take care of any other unfinished business. If you have questions about your suggested course schedule please email your academic advisor.

Guests are welcome to attend academic area meetings. However, advising appointments are for students only. During that time, guests are invited to walk around and enjoy our self-guided tour or use on our free Wi-Fi and wait outside the Student Success and Advising Center, 112 Dawson Hall. Advising appointments usually take 30-45 minutes.

After Orientation - Give Us Your Feedback

Academic advising is a central component of our mission as a center and an integral part of your academic experience at UGA and within the College of Family and Consumer Sciences. Feedback about your advising experience is important to us so that we can continue to meet the needs of current and future students.

At the conclusion of your orientation session with the College of Family and Consumer Sciences, please click here to tell us about your advising and registration experience. It will take approximately eight minutes to complete. Your responses will remain confidential. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the Student Success and Advising Center at success@uga.edu.
