Students, faculty, and supporters are invited to participate in a day trip to the Georgia State Capitol in Atlanta to show support of Family and Consumer Sciences.

What You'll Do

  • Learn about the legislative process and key pending legislation affecting Georgia consumers and families during the session of the Georgia General Assembly
  • Watch the Georgia General Assembly in action as legislators consider bills
  • Learn about the history of the Georgia State Capitol and past political leaders
  • Meet your FACS Legislative Aides who work with Representatives and Senators from the Athens area
  • Network with FACS students and faculty, legislators, and other state officials
  • Show your UGA spirit and FACS pride

Schedule Highlights

  •  Photo and proclamation with the Governor Nathan Deal, North Wing Staircase, Capitiol Building
  •  Observations and reading of the resolution in the House and Senate
  •  Lunch with local Representatives and Guest Speakers, Blue Room at Freight Depot

Registration is closed. Check back in January 2018 to attend.

Don't Need a Ride?

You are welcome to provide your own transportation to the Georgia State Capitol.  However, you must still make a reservation for lunch and turn in your liability waiver before you will be allowed to participate. 

Directions to Georgia State Capitol

From the South

Take I-75/85 North to Exit 245 (Capitol Avenue). 
At the bottom of the exit ramp, 
continue straight through the stop sign. 
At the first traffic light, 
turn left onto Hank Aaron Drive. 
The Capitol will be approximately 
one mile down on the left.

From the North

Take I-75/85 South to Exit 248A 
(Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive). 
Bear right onto Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive. 
The Capitol will be on the left.

From the East

Take I-20 West to Exit 58A (Capitol Avenue). 
Turn right on Capitol Avenue. 
The Capitol will be approximately 
one mile down on the left.

From the West

Take I-20 East to Exit 56B 
(Windsor St./Spring St./Stadium). 
At the third light, turn left onto Central Avenue. 
Go to Mitchell Street and turn right. 
The Capitol will be two blocks down on the left.
