The College of Family and Consumer Sciences can trace its origins back to February 1918, when the Division of Home Economics within the UGA College of Agriculture was approved. The first students enrolled in September 1918. In 2018, the college celebrated 100 years of offering programming at UGA.

A Century of Memories
During the early 1900s, home economics provided academic and career opportunities for women. Graduates became teachers, Extension agents and dietitians, using their knowledge to help solve the problems of nutritional deficiencies, food scarcity, poverty, poor sanitation, and illness. Their work was especially important during World War I and the Great Depression. For our college, it all began in 1918 when the doors for women at the University of Georgia were finally opened.

A Century of Innovation
From addressing issues related to a food shortage 100 years ago to creating biodegradable plastics in the 21st century, our research continues to transform lives.

A Century of Giving
This past century of giving can be seen in each and every student that has graduated from this college with resources contributed each year by friends and alumni. It's also represented by the 115 endowment funds established in benefit to the college through private giving.
