Virtual Fall 2020 Commencement Ceremonies
The University of Georgia has announced that the Fall 2020 undergraduate and graduate Commencement ceremonies, previously scheduled for Stegeman Coliseum on Dec. 18, 2020, will be held virtually.
The university’s Fall Commencement plans include:
- A virtual undergraduate Commencement ceremony, scheduled for Friday, Dec. 18, 2020.
- A separate virtual graduate Commencement ceremony for Fall and Spring 2020 master’s and doctoral degree candidates, also scheduled for Friday, Dec. 18, 2020. (The ceremony for Spring 2020 master’s and doctoral degree candidates was previously rescheduled to be held in combination with Fall 2020 graduation)
- A unique, celebratory gift to be mailed to each graduate eligible to participate in these two ceremonies.
“We realize that the news of a virtual Commencement ceremony will be reassuring to some graduates and their families but disappointing to others, particularly the graduate and professional students whose original commencement ceremony was postponed in May,” said UGA President Jere W. Morehead. “However, the safety of our students and their families in this challenging time was at the forefront of this decision. Our Commencement planners will now strive to find ways to celebrate the occasion that are distinctive, meaningful and memorable for our graduates.”
FACS Convocation for Fall 2020
FACS typically celebrates graduation with a smaller, more personal convocation. This year we will follow UGA's lead and not have a ceremony. However, we will publish a program with graduates’ names and majors and a message from Dean Fox. We will send you two copies of the program and a small gift in honor of your graduation.
Students with FERPA restrictions will not have their names listed in the Commencement Program. Make sure to remove your FERPA restriction in order to appear in the program. Visit the Office of the Registrar’s page to remove the flag.
To confirm that your graduation application is complete and is on your record, check DegreeWorks the day after you apply and confirm that your pending degree term has updated. You can also find your degree and major in DegreeWorks.
For more information on how to apply, contact the Registrar’s Office at 706-542-4040 or email@example.com.
If you are a graduate student, please follow deadlines and procedures set by the UGA Graduate School.
Diplomas will be mailed from the UGA Registrar's Office approximately 6-8 weeks after the semester is over. As a note of reminder for FACS undergraduate students, graduates receive a Bachelor of Science in Family and Consumer Sciences (BSFCS) in your major. You can confirm your degree and major in DegreeWorks. Your degree is not official until all grades and graduation requirements are reflected in Degree Works and authorized by the Office of the Registrar. Grades are due on Monday, May 11th at noon.
Graduating with Honors
Visit the Office of the Registrar's site for information.
The first Senior Signature plaque was created in 1991 with just a few hundred signatures. Today, thousands of graduating students make a difference by donating a minimum $50 gift to the university. By making a gift, you will be recognized forever on your class plaque in Tate Plaza. Plus, Senior Signature donors are automatically a part of the Student Alumni Association. This gift includes a designation option so that FACS graduates can give to the college, a department, a program, or a scholarship that has had a personal impact on them during their time at UGA.
All May, August and December undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to include their name on the plaque. The deadline is March 31.
