Awards/Scholarships

Applicants must be current dues-paying members of AAFCS/GAFCS. Scholarship and awards applications and nominations are due January 15, 2025

Use the Awards Form if you would like to nominate a GAFCS member or apply on your own for the following:

  • Georgia Outstanding Family and Consumer Sciences Professional
  • Georgia Leaders Award
  • Georgia New Achievers Award
  • Georgia Teacher of the Year Award
  • Georgia Wiley-Berger Award for Volunteer Service

Award Membership Requirement Requirements Will Receive
First Timer Attendee Professional Member First time attending GAFCS annual conference. AAFCS membership must be current. Mark conference registration as a 1st timer. Cost of Registration
Graduate Scholarship Member Enrolled in FACS graduate or related specialized program in a Georgia institution. Must be a current AAFCS/GAFCS member. Signed Application. Three Recommendations. Use recommendation form. Résumé. Descriptions of need, academic success, experience. $1,000.00
TC Transcontinental Undergraduate Scholarship Student Unit Member Enrolled in FACS undergraduate or related specialized program in a Georgia institution. Must be a current AAFCS/GAFCS member. Signed Application. Three Recommendations. Use recommendation form. Vitae/Résumé. Descriptions of need, academic success, experience. $1,500.00
Spirit of Giving Undergraduate Scholarship Student Unit Member Junior or Senior enrolled in FACS Education undergraduate program in a Georgia institution. Must be a current AAFCS/GAFCS member. Signed Application. Three Recommendations. Use recommendation form. Vitae/Résumé. Excellent community service, service learning and/or volunteerism. Description of need, acadmic success, experience. $1,000.00
Georgia Outstanding FACS Professional Professional Member GAFCS professional who has demonstrated outstanding contributions to GAFCS and AAFCS on local, state, and/or national level. Two years prior membership before applying. Signed application. Three recommendations. Use recommendation form. Curriculum vitae/résumé - updated within past year. Support material. Plaque
Julius Benton Professional Improvement Professional Member Desire to engage in a professional improvement project that enables the individual to develop and share communications and public relations skills which exemplify the goals of GAFCS. Present a session at the next GAFCS annual conference. Prepare a GAFCS newsletter article about the project. Signed application. No longer than 1 page detail describing improvement project. $1,000.00
Bronze Circle Award Member Have 10 years membership in AAFCS as of the end of the month in which the GAFCS annual meeting is held. Special certificate with bronze foil logo
Silver Circle Award Member Have 25 years membership in AAFCS as of the end of the month in which the GAFCS annual meeting is held. Special certificate with silver foil logo
Golden Circle Award Member Have 50 years membership in AAFCS as of the end of the month in which the GAFCS annual meeting is held. Special certificate with gold foil logo

Georgia Leader Award Member Recognizes Family and Consumer Sciences professionals who have made significant contributions to the field through their involvement in AAFCS.
Follow AAFCS guidelines.
At least 2 consecutive years of membership prior to nomination and completed 8 years of service to the field.
Applications evaluated at state level and nominee application forwarded to AAFCS, if national competition.
Signed application.

Georgia New Achiever Award Member Recognizes emerging professionals who have shown potential significant contributions in the field of Family and Consumer Sciences. Follow AAFCS guidelines. Active member with 2 consecutive years of membership prior to nomination and completed 3-8 years of service to the field. Applications evaluated at state level and nominee application forwarded to AAFCS, if national competition. Signed application. Recommendation form. Plaque
Georgia Teacher of the Year Member Recognizes exemplary teachers who utilize cutting-edge methods, techniques, and activities to provide stimulus and visibility to family and consumer sciences in elementary and secondary education. Follow Georgia guidelines for state award and AAFCS guidelines if selected as GAFCS Teacher of the Year. Signed application. Plaque
Georgia Wiley-Berger Award for Volunteer Service Member Recognizes outstanding volunteer whose work has enhanced the well-being of others. Follow AAFCS guidelines.
